Library Committee

Our library is a true learning centre with reading space for more than 100 students at a time. The library has good stocks of textbooks, reference books, journals, magazines and newspapers. It also has an archive of editorial clippings on interesting subjects. The library subscribes to a large number of national and international journals and also has a very large collection of reference books on advanced disciplines with internet facility.

In all, the college library has more than 20,000 volumes and around 8000 titles covering various advanced topics pertaining to the subjects offered by the college. A dynamic CD library presents data and information in bytes. Furthermore, information is compiled for the students from various international websites and is collated topic-wise in the form of printouts. All this is made freely available to the students. The college library also offers reprographic facilities like photocopying, lamination, spiral binding, etc. The library provides facility for the borrowing of books, magazines, freeware and SONET CDs. The Book Bank facility supported by the Social Welfare Department is available for SC & ST scholarship holders.

Computerization

The Library uses DELPLUS software package which is an integrated multi user library management system that supports all in-house operations of the library. The DELPLUS consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. The database of books available in the library is being updated on day to day basis with detail of recently acquired book records of all the Library patron have also been created in the DELPULS package. The editing and updating activities are in progress.

The library works on all days of the year except a few holidays of National & Social importance.

Membership

The enrolment of membership will be extended to all the bonafide students of UG / PG programs and teaching and non-teaching of the college. The prescribed membership form can be had from the circulation counter.

Guidelines to Users

General Rules

  • Members shall observe absolute silence in the reading halls.
  • Use of Cell phones inside the library is strictly prohibited.
  • Laptop computers (without the carrying case) are allowed inside the library.
  • Members shall not engage in conversation in any part of the library which may cause disturbance to other readers.
  • Members shall not smoke, chew pan or spit in any part of the library.
  • Members shall not scribble, damage or mark on any book belonging to the library.
  • Members shall not shelve books and periodicals as that disturb the prescribed order.
  • Members are responsible for any damage caused by them to the books or any other property belonging to the library and shall be required to pay the penalty imposed upon them by the Librarian.
  • The members caught tearing pages/stealing of books will be suspended forthwith from using the library facilities and further disciplinary action will be initiated against them by the University.
  • Members shall not bring inside the library their personal belongings, books & other printed material including library books borrowed by them (except to return them).
  • Members leaving the library should show the material borrowed by them / taken out of the library to the security staff at the gate. They should take back their belongings kept at the property counter while leaving the library.
  • The library is not responsible for the belongings kept at the property counter. Hence, the users are advised to not to keep any valuables at the property counter.
  • Upon any infringement of the library rules, members shall forfeit the privileges of admission and membership of the library.
  • The Librarian reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misusing the library materials, misbehaving, creating nuisance, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner.
  • All members should return the books borrowed from the library before complete the course and they proceed on a long period of leave and obtain a 'No Dues' Certificate from the library.
  • The Librarian reserves the right to allow more books to a member on special request depending on the need and urgency.
  • Member should not borrow defective / damaged books. While returning such a book, the member will be held responsible and charged as per the rules.
  • Reference books, Reserve books, Theses & Dissertations, CD/DVDs, Loose issues and Bound volumes of journals are not issued by the library.

Loss of Books

Loss of books by the borrower should be reported to the Circulation section immediately to avoid the accumulation of fine. Further, the borrower shall either replace the book or pay the cost of the book.

The defaulter will be charged 3 times the cost of the book, if the book is in print, or 4 times the cost of the book, if the book is out of print towards book recovery cost.

If the book of a multi volume set is lost or damaged the concerned member shall be liable to replace the whole set or pay 4 times the cost of the volume on the above line.

Overdue Charges

Overdue charges will be levied after one week from the due date @ Re.1/- per day per book. Once a recall notice is served for a book and if the member does not return the book within a week overdue charges @ Rs. 5/- per day will be levied.

If a member fails to return a book even after 7 days (from the date of receiving the recall notice), the Library will inform the Finance & Accounts Section to deduct the cost of the book plus overdue charges, etc, from the salary/Scholarship of the borrower after a formal notice.
